Yamuna Expressway is an upcoming Residential and tourism based commercial area to promote industrial developments in the state of Uttar Pradesh and connecting tourism destinations of Delhi and Agra. The govt of U.P. in 2001 planned over Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (earlier known as Taj Expressway Industrial Development Authority) for growth and economic development in the region between the two rivers of Ganga and Yamuna.
Prior to 2010 when Jaypee group constructed and made Yammuna Expressway functional on an agreement with Govt of U.P. to construct the expressway in 7 years and concession period of 36 years from the date of commencement tourists had to travel through NH-2(National Highway-2) which passed through very congested areas of Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Palwal, Mathura etc and took approx 5 hrs to reach Agra. But now thanks to Yamuna Expressway; now it takes merely 1 hr 39 minutes to reach Agra.
